Freely accessible every day, except Mondays and Tuesdays, from 3 to 7 PM, the museum of the Residence des Indes offers to discover the interior of a typical merchant mansion of La Rochelle in the 18th century, its « Golden century », which has been fully restored with furniture and art objects of the period, as well as art objects originating from the Orient that well-to-do people would then be very fond of : chinaware, chinese lacquer, Indian printed fabric, etc.

Other exhibited precious art objects originate from various oriental cultures, such as Burma, Siam (modern Thailand), Japan and India.

Complete your round tour of the World in the former dining hall, which has been converted into a cabinet of tribal curiosities, in the 18th century spirit, originating from Africa, pre-colombian America, India and the Pacific, while sipping a cup of exquisite tea, coffee, chocolate or fruit juice, with home-made pastry, in a tea room, which is nestled in the first floor halls or the green patio of the museum.

Finally, discover the cultural renaissance of La Rochelle in the 1960-90’s, of which La Rochelle citizens still benefit today.

Each objet bears a legend. Each family of objects is documented. This information is made available through panels and/or QR codes that be scanned on your mobile phone.
