Discover a fully restored, furnished and decorated mansion of a merchant mansion of the 18th century, “the golden age of La Rochelle”, with oriental exhibits that used to be in fashion then: chinaware, chinese lacquer, indian printed cotton fabrics, etc.

Other precious art exhibits originate from various oriental cultures, such as Burma, Siam (modern Thailand), China, Japan and India, notably with unique Indian collections of folk, tribal and erotic art that were exhibited in Paris museums: Quai Branly and the Pinacothèque.

Experience the magic of the Eastern Indies with a fresco by La Rochelle artist Loïc Palluaud that dresses the staircase leading to the “Kama” suite on the 2nd floor inspired by a painting by English painter Thomas Daniell who toured India with his nephew over 4000 kms between 1786 and 1793.

Finally, discover the cultural renaissance of La Rochelle in the 1960-90’s, of which La Rochelle citizens still benefit today.

Regular cultural events are organized as “Escales au Salon” (“calls at the hall”): conferences, concerts, workshops, etc., any event that acquires a special flavour with few participants in a cosy vintage hall.
